About Soft Hours Tea House 柔時閑堂

Soft Hours is a contemporary Chinese tea house inspired by the quiet rituals of the Song Dynasty. We serve carefully sourced Chinese teas alongside house made confections, inviting guests to slow down and spend time well.

If you're seeking a peaceful, unhurried experience, we recommend visiting on a weekday. Many guests come to read, journal, sketch, or simply enjoy a quiet afternoon.

Weekends are very different. Due to demand, there may be a waitlist, conversations become livelier, and our dine in tables operate under a 2 item per guest minimum and a 50 minute seating limit so more guests have the opportunity to experience the space. If you're ordering tea to go, we also have standing counters and window seating available.

I am obsessed with this teahouse! This was such an amazing experience. It took about 30 minutes to get a table as they only have four booths and four standing tables. We wanted to sit so we waited despite the standing tables being available. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the tea and snacks were prepared quickly. The actual tea and food looked so beautiful (look at the pictures!) and tasted even better. I had the sichuan jasmine green tea and my mother had the wuyi oolong. I accompanied mine with the osmanthus candies and rose water meringues, and my mom got the black sesame oatmeal cookie. The tea was fantastic; super full bodied, aromatic, and flavorful. The rose water meringues brought tears to my eyes from how delicious they were. I wish I could eat a million of them. Anyways, come here!!! It’s a great break from the busy outside world.

If you love tea in its best and most form, you HAVE to come here. I went on a very hot day, and first started with their iced Sichuan Jasmine tea to cool down. The tea was perfectly brewed and was extremely refreshing. I ordered it with the Osmanthus Amber Candy and the combination was very pleasant. The candy’s texture was almost identical to the feeling you get when you eat the sugar on a crème brûlée, but the inside texture was like a soft gummy. After I cooled off a bit I decided to try their specialty oolong tea called Wuyi Dahongpao. I was truly blown away by the quality, I’ve had a lot of high quality oolong tea’s before but this was truly among the best I’ve ever had. As for the service at this location, the woman at the register (unfortunately I don’t recall her name) I believe may have been the owner and was extremely helpful. She also had a clear love for the tea and the space, and I felt so welcomed. I also appreciated the beautiful incense wafting through the tea house, the attention to detail in every aspect of this place is immaculate. Unfortunately I don’t live in NYC, but this would absolutely become a local frequented spot for me if I did.

Such a beautiful space in Chinatown! They have limited seating but if you’re able to snag one it’s totally worth it! The tea itself is so fragrant and I love that they include cards with each drink to describe the notes and origin of the tea. Would highly recommend their jasmine, it was so floral and unique! Their snacks are also delicious and make great pairings. Would totally come back!!

Soft Hours is a newly opened tea house in Chinatown! Excited to visit and try, my friend and I arrived right at opening on Saturday. We didn’t know which confectionary to get so… we got all of them LOL all very delicious! I’m still thinking about their black sesame cookie as we speak. Both drinks we chose were very fragrant and I would love to go back (when it’s a little cooler) to try the teas hot! Overall very lovely space and yummy teas and treats, I’ll be back soon! I highly recommend coming early on weekends or coming on a weekday ^^

Chanced upon this tea room on a Sunday afternoon and immediately fell in love. It’s such a special, welcoming space. Every drink felt thoughtful and unique, and the treats were just as delicious. I had the chance to meet the owner, who is incredibly warm and clearly deeply knowledgeable about Chinese tea. You can feel the care and intention she’s put into every detail. I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu!
